The Rangers striker was reportedly on the brink of leaving Ibrox, as Steven Gerrard closed in on his replacement.

Eduardo Herrera of Rangers arrives at the stadium prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Despite reports this week claiming he was on the brink of leaving Rangers, Eduardo Herrera appears no closer to leaving Ibrox.

The Scottish Sun claimed Herrera was set to return to his native Mexico with Toluca – barely a year since he arrived at Rangers from Pumas.

But the 29-year-old’s latest Instagram story update suggests he is still in Glasgow.

The reports on Herrera’s future emerged less than 24 hours after the nine-cap Mexico international posted the following message via the same social media site.

Herrera has only scored twice in 24 games for Rangers and could find chances limited under new boss Steven Gerrard, who according to the Scottish Sun is confident of signing another striker, Umar Sadiq, on loan from Roma this week.

His fellow countryman, Carlos Pena, returned to Mexico with Cruz Azul in January, and has since had his loan deal transferred to Necaxa until the end of the year.

Will Rangers get rid of Herrera this window?
