Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after L’Equipe (via GFFN) revealed that the Gunners were ‘too timid’ in their approach to sign Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

The France international could’ve been obtained for €50 million (£44.9 million) in the summer due to that figure being Lyon’s asking price.

Juventus were unwilling to meet that sum, while Paris Saint-Germain have decided to target him in the upcoming summer.

This news comes after it was reported by L’Equipe that Aouar had refused to train, and won’t be included in the squad to face Reims on Sunday as a punishment.

Since Mikel Arteta and Edu failed to sign the attacking midfielder over the summer, the 22-year-old has impressed for the Ligue 1 outfit this season.

Aouar has scored four goals in 11 appearances across all competitions for Lyon, while also grabbing an assist.

WhoScored shows that the Lyon No.8 averages 2.6 shots per game in Ligue 1 and 1.4 dribbles every 90 minutes in France’s top-flight.

Seeing as European giants such as PSG and Juventus are lurking, Arsenal might regret being too ‘timid’ in their pursuit of Aouar.

The north Londoners had a great chance to land the midfielder for a fairly reasonable sum in this day and age.

Now, however, there’s the chance that the asking price could rise if he has an impressive campaign, in our view.

Let’s see how the Arsenal fans reacted to this news from L’Equipe…
