You won’t find a better piece of business anywhere in the Premier League than Arsenal’s signing of Gabriel Martinelli.

The Gunners have a player who could be worth an absolute fortune in the near future, with Jurgen Klopp remarking three years ago that this is a ‘talent of the century’.

He’s a massive bargain and that’s because Arsenal only paid £6 million to sign him during the summer of 2019.

With Edu’s knowledge of Brazilian football, he was almost certainly behind Martinelli’s arrival.

And whisper it, but Edu might’ve found yet another cheap South American capable of taking the Premier League by storm.

Marquinhos

Arsenal had an excellent summer on the recruitment front but their first addition of the window was, like Martinelli three years ago, a very low-profile one.

Edu signed Marquinhos from Sao Paulo but, at £3 million, he cost only half the price of his compatriot.

But the 19-year-old demonstrated his ability on Thursday by scoring the opening goal on his Arsenal debut against Zurich in the Europa League.

Yes it’s only Zurich, and Mikel Arteta’s side were huge favourites to win the game, but this was his first senior outing in Europe and Marquinhos, like Martinelli, has a sense of real fearlessness about him.

Martinelli is an enormous talent, but it’s his mentality which allows him to demonstrate it on a regular basis.

And although it’s early days for Marquinhos, he definitely looks to have a similar mindset-slash-skillset and having only cost £3 million, well Edu certainly appears to have done it again.
