Despite Eddie Nketiah’s upturn in fortunes, Arsenal will be signing a striker this summer.
Nketiah, who scored twice against Chelsea in midweek, and Alexandre Lacazette are both out of contract in a couple of months.
Therefore, at least one hitman will be arriving in North London soon – and it looks like Gabriel Jesus is a potential candidate.
According to The Athletic, Gunners’ transfer guru Edu has been in talks over getting this done for months and if it happens, it’ll be a masterstroke by the Brazilian.
That’s because Gabriel is out of contract at Manchester City next summer and therefore the Citizens can’t demand an eye-watering sum.
With only 14 months left on his contract, this could be a massive bargain for Arsenal.
Remember, Gabriel scored four goals for Pep Guardiola’s side on Saturday, highlighting his undeniable threat up front.
And the fact that Arsenal could get a player like this for a cut-price fee makes it a potentially insane deal from the Londoners’ perspective.
According to Yahoo Sport, the Emirates Stadium outfit have already lodged a ‘huge’ offer for the player in regards to personal terms, around £5.5 million per year.
It’s also worth mentioning that Gabriel could be a title winner once again come this summer, with Guardiola’s troops going for glory at the top of the Premier League standings.
So for the Gunners to sign a marksman this prolific, from a title-winning team, and for a relatively nominal fee when you consider the length of this contract, well this could be the best business Edu does all summer long.
