Recently, Edu made some comments on Willian’s stuttering start to life at Arsenal.
As quoted by the Mirror, Arsenal’s technical director said: ‘For me, Willian is a question of time to be performing how we know he can. What do you expect? Do you expect it straight away? Boom! Willian can be the best one? But he needs a little bit of time, it’s strange as well to say that but you need time to know the players who you are going to play with.’
Do you expect him to perform straight away, Edu asks?
Well, that’s exactly what he thought back in August when the former Shakhtar Donetsk attacker arrived in north London.
Arsenal’s official website quotes Edu as saying: ‘I am really excited and really happy to have a player like Willian because I’m convinced he’ll be the one to impact the team straight away.’

If any Arsenal supporters are sat in frustration because Willian hasn’t started well at the Emirates, then Edu simply can’t chastise them for that.
Why? Well, it was the technical director who raised the fanbase’s hopes, right from the Brazil international’s first day at the club with comments like that.
He has, quite simply, contradicted himself on a massive scale.

Yes, Willian – who earns £192,308-a-week – is struggling, as are the rest of the team. That’s fine. As a new signing, he should be afforded some time to settle.
However, Edu didn’t really help the ex-Chelsea man by telling Arsenal’s official website of all places that he’s ‘convinced’ Willian will hit the ground running.
To now sit there and ask supporters ‘do you expect him to perform straight away?’ is an insult. The Emirates faithful most likely did expect that, Edu, and that was partly down to the hype generated by you.
