Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have no intension of cashing in on William Saliba at the end of the season, according to Goal.

Goal have reported that Arsenal are closely following the progress of Saliba during his loan spell at Marseille and plan to integrate him into the first-team squad next season.

Arsenal technical director Edu and loan manager Ben Knapper have personally flown to France on several occasions this season to watch the 20-year-old central defender in action for Marseille.

And they have reportedly been impressed.

Arsenal need William Saliba

In our view, Arsenal need Saliba, just not for next season, but for years to come as well.

Yes, Ben White and Gabriel are the two main centre-backs under manager Arteta at the moment, but Arsenal need more options and depth in that area.

Saliba is only 20 and is still developing and progressing as a footballer.

And Arsenal paid £27 million in transfer fees for the Frenchman.

That is quite a bit of investment from a club who are not regulars in the Champions League anymore.

Saliba is playing regularly in France, and that is certainly helping his game.

We think that Arsenal would be better off with Saliba in their squad next season, especially if they are able to finish in the Premier League top four.
