Arsenal winger Willian might be in a bit of trouble this summer.
By virtue of the fact that the 32-year-old has no goals and three assists in 23 games for the Gunners since joining on a free last summer, you could argue that he’s hardly earning his £220,000-a-week wage packet.
In fact, there’s quite a lot of Arsenal fans who would not be particularly upset if Edu – who brought him to North London – tried to get rid of him at the next available opportunity.
But that might just be the case.
That’s because Arsenal target Manor Solomon confirmed on Tuesday that he is sought after by Premier League clubs and if the Shakhtar Donetsk attacker does wind up at the Emirates, Willian just isn’t going to play.
Mikel Arteta already has quite a lot of wide players at his disposal and the Brazil international is most at risk if Solomon comes in.
Out left, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka are ahead of Willian [Gabriel Martinelli should be] in the pecking order and Nicolas Pepe is out on the right.
Solomon, like Willian, is fluent on both wings but the truth is that there’s just no point in Arsenal having the latter if they bring in the 21-year-old.
With wages of £220,000 per week, he’s a major burden on the club and will be over the next three years.
Unless they plan to use him then trying to move him on is the logical step – and Solomon would simply accelerate that process.
