Let’s face it, Arsenal have done a lot of questionable business during the summer transfer window.
No team in any of Europe’s top five leagues has spent more than the £132 million that Arsenal have dropped on players so far.
And if the Gunners were flying high at the top of the Premier League then you’d have to say it was wisely spent but, instead, they’re rock bottom of the table after losing all three of their games so far – scoring zero, conceding nine.
Of course, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Odegaard could all prove brilliant signings yet, because it’s still early.
But for now, there’s an enormous question mark over how Arsenal have spent their money over the past three months.
That being said, Edu might be finally set to complete a brilliant piece of business in regards to an outgoing.
Potential bargain
According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are prepared to spend £12 million on signing Eddie Nketiah before Tuesday’s deadline.
Say what you want about Edu – and many Arsenal fans do – but this would be a bit of a bargain.
Not only is Nketiah very much a fringe player at the Emirates and one who might struggle to even make Mikel Arteta’s squad this season, with Folarin Balogun now ahead of him in the pecking order, but he is out of contract next summer.
And honestly, £12 million for someone who barely even qualifies as a squad player is a fine price, particularly when he’s leaving for free in nine months in anyway.
In addition to that, the 22-year-old striker is also injured right now and won’t be back until mid-September, which means Palace may be taking quite a gamble if they’re genuinely keen.
Heaven knows that their recruitment is very dodgy and has been for the guts of three years, since Arsene Wenger left, but selling Nketiah for that price would be a sound piece of business.
