In an interview with AS, Edu revealed that he’s ‘concerned’ about Lucas Torreira amidst his struggles with Atletico Madrid on loan from Arsenal.

The £75,000-a-week man joined Diego Simeone’s side on a season-long loan deal, but has only started two games in La Liga.

Speaking about Torreira’s situation, Edu told AS: ‘Arsenal are concerned about Torreira, his happiness, that he plays and that he’s well. For us, Lucas and his happiness is the most important thing.

‘If everyone is happy, we will continue like this, if Lucas is not well, we will seek a change because there are many teams that are calling me to ask about the player’s situation.’

The former Sampdoria man – who Unai Emery brought to Arsenal – has only made seven La Liga appearances in total this term, as well as four Champions League appearances.

Edu’s comments offer a clear-cut solution to the problem.

The Brazilian basically admits that, if Torreira is happy under Simeone regardless of his game-time issues, then he can stay at the Wanda Metropolitano.

However, if he is unhappy, Edu is prepared to find him a new club.

That shouldn’t be too difficult to do, as the Technical Director also revealed that he has ‘many teams’ calling him about Torreira’s availability.

While the South American’s happiness is the main thing, Edu must also ensure he doesn’t damage the Arsenal asset’s value even more.

Having paid £26 million for his services, it feels unlikely that the Gunners would make that money back right now.

However, Torreira is still only 24, so he has plenty of time left on his side.

It is now down to Arsenal to ensure that their player finds a happy environment, where he can enjoy his football and regain some form.
