If available, Tottenham Hotspur must sign Edin Dzeko.
If Mauricio Pochettino has a Christmas wishlist, the most prominent entry must be a desire for the media to stop asking him questions about whether he will quit Tottenham Hotspur to join Manchsester United in the summer.
But right below that is probably a request for Daniel Levy to sign him some top-quality players in January – and, more specifically, a striker.
On the surface, Tottenham don’t need another hitman, given that Harry Kane scored twice in Sunday’s 6-2 demolition at Everton to make it 11 Premier League goals for the season.
But the English marksman does need better back-up than what Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen can provide – and Edin Dzeko would be absolutely perfect.
There is no speculation about Spurs moving for the former Manchester City striker, but he could be available and what a truly brilliant signing he would be.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma are weighing up a move for Chelsea-owned striker Michy Batshuayi and that may have negative implications for the 32-year-old, who earns around £77,000 per week in the Italian capital [Calciomercato].
West Ham United are reportedly interested and if that’s the case then Tottenham definitely should make move. He wouldn’t play from the start every single week, but he has proven himself an outstanding goalscorer from a ‘super sub’ role down the years and who better to change a game for Pochettino’s side if and when they need a plan-b?
Llorente and Janssen have three goals between them in a combined 46 Premier League games for the Lilywhites, which is a dreadful return and one that should indicate that Pochettino has never successfully found the cover for Kane that he clearly wants.
If Pochettino is going to commit his future to the North Londoners for the long term, amid the United speculation, then he’ll need something in return from Levy, and Dzeko wouldn’t be a bad gift.
