Edin Dzeko rules out Inter Milan exit after Tottenham transfer rumours

Edin Dzeko has shot down rumours that he could leave Inter Milan days after reports emerged that Tottenham wanted to sign the 36-year-old Serie A striker.

Speaking to CalcioMercato, the veteran attacker was asked about recent links from CalcioMercatoWeb that Tottenham were interested in signing Dzeko, with the Bosnian with: “I am happy here. I really want to continue playing at Inter. We will see what happens next year.”

Dzeko’s contract with Inter is due to expire next summer after signing for the Nerazzurri last year to replace Chelsea-bound Romelu Lukaku. And although the Belgian international has returned to the San Siro, is it expected that the former AS Roma and Manchester City star will renew for another season.

As per CalcioMercatoWeb’s report, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is interested in signing a new attacker for next season in the event that Harry Kane leaves north London, with Dzeko on the Italian’s radar despite his age and links to Premier League rivals City.

However, this now appears to be one transfer rumour that is already dead in the water, with Dzeko saying he is happy in Italy and that he wants to continue playing for Inter, even with Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez on the club’s books for next season.

Indeed, whilst there is some method to Conte’s interest in Dzeko, Tottenham supporters would not have been on board with a 36-year-old replacing their greatest-ever Premier League goalscorer if Kane is to leave north London next summer, with better options out there in the market.

There’s no denying that Dzeko is a top attacker, with the Bosnia international still impressing this season with the veteran bagging an impressive nine goals in all competitions for the Italian giants. However, the Sarajevo-born forward replacing Kane at Tottenham next season would have been nothing short of madness.

After all, Italy and Serie A seems to suit Dzeko’s style of play to a tee, with the attacker thriving in the division ever since joining Roma back in 2015. And whilst a return to the Premier League would have been poetic, the forward himself seems to know that Inter is the best place for the final years of his career.
