West Ham United midfielder Edimilson Fernandes has sent a message to the club’s board on Instagram after completing a season-long loan move to Italian side Fiorentina this week.

The 22-year-old was allowed to leave West Ham this summer despite the Hammers already selling Cheikhou Kouyate to Crystal Palace for a fee believed to be in the region of £9.5million.

The Hammers managed to retain Pedro Obiang, and have signed England international Jack Wilshere and experienced Colombian Carlos Sanchez, who will now rival Mark Noble and Josh Cullen for a space in the side.

Fernandes had been pushed down the pecking order, then, and has decided to leave the club on loan to Serie A side Fiorentina. He thanked the West Ham board for allowing him to move out on loan, posting on his Instagram account.

Fernandes joined West Ham as somewhat of an unknown quantity from Swiss side FC Sion back in the summer of 2016, and has gone on to make 48 appearances for West Ham in all competitions.

However, injury has stunted his growth in east London, and he will now be looking to get regular football under his belt in a bid to add experience and quality to his game.

The tactical nous of the Italian league may give Fernandes a better understanding of the game and in turn benefit the Hammers in the future, with two years still remaining on his contract.
