Former West Ham star Dimitri Payet suffered a double blow during the Europa League final.

West Ham United midfielder Edimilson Fernandes has sent a sympathetic message to former teammate Dimitri Payet on Twitter after the latter suffered a double blow during the Europa League final.
Payet, 31, started the match despite suffering with a thigh strain of late, as his side Marseille suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in Lyon.

France teammate Antoine Griezmann scored twice before veteran midfielder Gabi rounded off the win. But the loss was not the only reason for Payet’s tears, as he was substituted in the 32nd minute of the match.
The muscle problem forced him off the field and now the France international is a doubt for this summer’s World Cup in Russia. Former teammate Fernandes sent a heartfelt message to the set-piece specialist on Instagram.

Fernandes, 22, has himself been suffering from injury for much of the 2017-18 campaign after undergoing ankle surgery earlier in the season.
A three-time Switzerland international, Fernandes himself will be hoping for a ticket to Russia this summer with Vladimir Petkovic’s squad after returning to the West Ham side for the last eight Premier League matches.
Whether he will join Payet in participating at the competition, though, remains to be seen.
