The midfielder showed some encouraging signs in West Ham’s defeat to Manchester City.

Edimilson Fernandes has already amassed over 40 senior appearances for West Ham United but many of those outings have come as a substitute, with the 21-year-old yet to establish himself as a regular.
Most effective as a central midfielder but also capable of playing on either flank if required, Fernandes was given a starting berth as West Ham were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium yesterday.
While he may have ended up on the losing side, Fernandes showed some encouraging signs, especially during the first half, as he retained possession effectively and also made some impressive bursts forwards.

Fernandes does have a tendency to be rather anonymous at times, and he requires some improvement defensively, but he certainly possesses much raw potential.
Although he perhaps isn’t worthy of a regular starting berth at present, Fernandes can certainly be a useful part of David Moyes’ squad as West Ham seek to avoid relegation.

Fernandes’ athleticism and ability to burst past opponents is extremely useful, although he does need to start performing with greater consistency.
West Ham are back in action on Saturday when they host Chelsea and Fernandes will hope that he has done enough to retain his place in the starting line-up for that fixture.
