Edgar Davids has told BT Sport, during their live coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s match with Ajax, that Christian Eriksen ‘didn’t show up’ last night.

Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by Ajax yesterday, and their performance in the contest was well short of the standard expected.

Spurs just never really clicked into gear, and in the end they could feel fortunate to still be in the tie.

Eriksen was one of the biggest disappointments for Tottenham on the night, as he failed to show his best.

And Davids was not impressed by the £75,000-a-week (Sportac) attacking midfielder’s display.

“This was a game for Eriksen to stand apart and he didn’t show up,” the former Spurs and Ajax midfielder said.

Ajax scored their goal against Tottenham early, when Donny van de Beek was afforded too much time in the box.

Spurs did improve in the second half, but they failed to create many openings, as they fell to defeat.

Tottenham now must win in Holland in the second leg to stand any chance of progressing.

Christian Eriksen of Tottenham Hotspur arrives during a training session ahead of their UEFA Champions League Semi Final first leg match against Ajax on April 29, 2019 in Enfield, England.
