Rodri told Sky Sports that Ederson told him ‘some specific points’ about Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on Saturday but he opted against listening to his teammate.

Manchester City have had their problems with penalties for some while now and all eyes were on Ederson when they were awarded one during their comfortable win against Tottenham from the weekend.

It had been suggested that Ederson might step-up to take a spot-kick, but it wasn’t to be because Rodri wanted to take that responsibility instead.

Manchester City’s £63 million midfielder (BBC Sport), who saw Lloris get a palm to his penalty, shared that he ignored Ederson’s advice on where to shoot the penalty.

“Goalkeepers know each other,” said Rodri. “He (Ederson) told me some specific points about Lloris and where I should shoot the penalty.

“I didn’t listen! I didn’t listen because many times it’s better to focus on what you are confident (at doing) and I was confident shooting that way and luckily it went in.”

Whilst Ederson wasn’t able to have a say on how Rodri was going to take his penalty, he did get his name on the assists sheet after his quite brilliant ball over the top to Man City’s man of the moment Ilkay Gundogan.

That moment of the game typified why Ederson is one of the best keepers in the country because it was effortless from wannabe playmaker.

It will be interesting to see if Ederson is provided with a chance to take a penalty for Man City this season because it would be some viewing.
