Aston Villa target Eden Hazard has confirmed that while he does not wish to leave Real Madrid, his future could change after the Qatar World Cup.

Villa’s interest in signing Hazard

It was recently reported by Defensa Central that Unai Emery was keen on a move for the former Chelsea winger, who was open to an exit due to being on the periphery of things in the Spanish capital.

With the Villains’ attack misfiring this season, many reacted to the transfer speculation surrounding the 31-year old by labelling the rumoured swoop as a no-brainer.

However, it is key to remember that the Belgian forward has been injured for a majority of his time at the club, since making a £150 million (BBC Sport) switch back in 2019.

While the ageing wideman promised at the end of last term that he would be “back next [2022/2023] season”, as previously reported by Football.London, a mere single start in La Liga suggests this campaign suggests his vow is yet to manifest itself so far.

Hazard discusses his future at Real Madrid

Commenting on whether he plans to depart Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Eden Hazard suggested that while he eyes a stay at the club, a move after the World Cup is not out of the question.

“I don’t want to leave Real Madrid. Maybe my situation will change after the World Cup”, he said, as quoted by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

Hazard continued, “I want to play but it’s the manager who makes his choices. I accept, but I want to show him that I deserve to play more. When you don’t, play it’s difficult.”

For Aston Villa to be able to sign the two-time Premier League champion, he must decide to take a massive wage cut to join the Birmingham-based outfit.

However, after seeing how Philippe Coutinho flattered to deceive at Villa Park, it would be a surprise to see the club go all in to sign yet another big-name past his best in Eden Hazard.
