Chelsea star Eden Hazard has lauded Liverpool counterpart Mohamed Salah and has admitted to Sky Sports that the Egyptian winger did not get a fair crack at Stamford Bridge.

Salah started only 10 games in two and a half years with the Blues, and was loaned out to Fiorentina and then Roma before joining the latter on a permanent basis in July 2016.

The 25-year-old returned to England with Liverpool in the summer and has proven to be an outstanding signing – he leads the Premier League scoring charts with nine goals in 12 matches.

Hazard has admitted this his own presence at Chelsea probably blocked Salah’s path into the first team, but feels that his former teammate has gone on to become a top-class player.

“He’s a top, top, top player,” Hazard is quoted by Sky Sports as saying. “He did not get his chance at Chelsea maybe because of the manager, because of the other players? I don’t know.

“He has quality but in that period I remember we had me, Willian, Oscar, so for him it was not easy.”

Considering that Willian has regressed into a squad player and Oscar was sold to China last year, it is pretty clear that Chelsea backed the wrong horse when offloading Salah.

The new Liverpool hero is one of several players that the Blues would love to have back, with Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku also having slipped through their net in recent years.
