Chelsea’s Eddie Newton has backed Cenk Tosun for success.

Cenk Tosun of Everton warms up prior to the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton at Wembley Stadium on January 13, 2018 in London, England.

Chelsea coach Eddie Newton has told the Liverpool Echo that he thinks Everton’s Cenk Tosun will do well in the Premier League, despite a slow start to life in England.

The Toffees went into the January transfer window needing a striker having failed to replace Romelu Lukaku over the summer, and Everton looked to Turkey for their new signing.

Everton splashed the cash on Besiktas hitman Cenk Tosun in January, landing the 26-year-old striker in a deal worth £27million, as reported by BBC Sport.

Tosun had hit 50 goals in his first three seasons for Besiktas, and built on that with 14 goals in 24 outings this season before being prised away from Besitkas by Everton.

The striker was expected to become an instant starter under Allardyce, but after starting against Tottenham and West Brom, Tosun has been sat on the bench for Everton in a lacklustre start to his Goodison Park career.

Some have been concerned with Tosun’s lack of impact so far, especially given that Allardyce isn’t even bringing him off the bench, but Everton fans have been given some hope.

Chelsea coach Eddie Newton has told the Liverpool Echo that he scouted Tosun for the Blues, and he feels that the striker is a very good player and predicted real success for him in England.

Newton added that Tosun simply needs time to settle into the Premier League, as it’s the fastest league in the world and takes some time to adapt to.

“He is a very good player, I watched him at Besiktas and was impressed,” said Newton. “In football you rarely sign a player and expect immediate results, especially in January. He will need time. The Premier League is the fastest in the world and it takes time to adjust.”

“Cenk is settling in and adapting. I really think he is going to do well in England but needs to be given a chance and time to settle in first,” he added.
