Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe wants to bring Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards to St. James’ Park, according to The Northern Echo.
What’s the story?
The Northern Echo have reported that Newcastle are looking at Liverpool sporting director Edwards.
Edwards is reportedly a leading challenger for the position.
Amanda Staveley’s advisory group reportedly have a number of strong contacts with Liverpool.
What is very encouraging for Newcastle fans is that Howe himself wants Edwards to join him.
According to The Northern Echo, Howe and Edwards ‘have remained extremely close’ ever since they first worked with each other at Portsmouth in the early 2000s.

The report has claimed that Howe met Edwards at Anfield last week when he went to watch Liverpool against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Could Michael Edwards move to Liverpool?
Edwards has done a remarkable job at Liverpool, bringing in the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson among other top players.
Eurosport reported in August 2021 that Edwards will leave Liverpool in the summer of 2022.
Now, if that remains the case still, then it is very encouraging for Newcastle.
However, it would mean that the Magpies would have to wait until the end of the season to bring in Edwards.
