HITC understands that Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has told the club to offer new deals to three of their senior players.

The Magpies lost their first Premier League game of the season at the weekend when they were beaten at Fulham.

But the feeling is that the team isn’t performing to high standards despite being unbeaten in their previous matches.

There has been a lot of noise around what Newcastle have and haven’t done this summer, with key targets, such as Marc Guehi, failing to be signed.

Paul Mitchell and Howe’s relationship has been tested, but their sporting director has no intentions of leaving.

Newcastle‘s hierarchy are hopeful the two of them can work together going forward after their failure to improve their squad.

Eddie Howe wants Sean Longstaff, Fabian Schar and Dan Burn to be handed new Newcastle contracts

Midfielder Sean Longstaff, and defenders Fabian Schar and Dan Burn, are both out-of-contract next summer, but all three are still playing crucial roles within Howe’s squad.

However, it remains to be seen whether sporting director Mitchell will sanction the extensions or instead look at something of a squad overhaul.

Mitchell is believed to be assessing the current squad as he gets to know the playing staff, but Howe has made his representations known to the club.

Sean Longstaff wants to commit long-term future to Newcastle

The 26-year-old has come through the academy and is a boyhood fan. He previously represented Kilmarnock and Blackpool on loan.

Whilst Schar and Burn are only likely looking at one-year options, it is believed Longstaff would want to commit long-term to his hometown club.
