Tottenham Hotspur have secured Champions League football for next season.
Eddie Howe has claimed that Tottenham duo Heung-Min Son and Juan Foyth deserved their red cards after his team recorded a 1-0 win against the London club on Saturday.
The Cherries boss honestly stated that centre-back Foyth, who was given his marching orders minutes into the second half, didn’t mean to go high on his tackle, but the situation still warranted a red.
Son was the first man to be shown a red card when referee Craig Pawson sent him for an early shower for seemingly pushing Jefferson Lerma to the ground.
Speaking to Match of the Day on BBC One (04/05/2019 at 10:55 pm), Howe offered his thoughts on what were two key moments during the match.
“I don’t think Foyth has meant to go in high,” Howe told Match of the Day. “But unfortunately momentum has taken him high in the tackle. It is probably a red card.
“Son, again I didn’t see what part Jefferson Lerma played in the build-up to that, but I think his reaction [Son’s] warranted a red card.”
Despite being down to nine men for most of the second half, Spurs defended with spirit and truthfully, they deserved a clean sheet at Dean Court.
But in stoppage-time, following a set-piece situation, the likes of Dele Alli and Victor Wanyama switched off to allow Natan Ake to head home.
It now means that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have lost three games on the bounce and they will now head to Holland for the second-leg of their Champions League semi-final encounter against Ajax.
