Eddie Howe has suggested that Everton are in contention to make it into Europe this season through his comments to Amazon Prime.

Everton lost 3-1 to Manchester City last night, which means that they sit in seventh place in the Premier League table.

The Toffees do, crucially, have a game in hand over many of the teams around them though.

And when Howe was asked what the realistic aim for Everton should be last night.

He said: “I think they’ll be looking at Europe, that is achievable.

“Who knows [if they can make the top four]. It’s been such an unpredictable season. I do think they are missing their supporters here, because this game would have had a totally different feel at 1-1.”

Everton’s European credentials are set to be thoroughly tested this weekend.

The Toffees are due to face Liverpool in the Merseyside derby, which should be fiercely contested.

Everton currently sit just three points behind Liverpool, having played a game less than their local rivals, and a victory would really raise optimism that they could mount a push for a Champions League qualification spot.

If Ancelotti’s side lose, though, their hopes of climbing into a top four spot would take a serious knock, as they would start to lose touch with some of the Champions League chasing clubs.
