There’s some big news coming out of Liverpool today, and it involves Newcastle as Michael Edwards announced his departure from Anfield.
What’s the story?
Well, the 42-year-old will be leaving his role as Sporting Director at the end of the season, following some incredible work for Liverpool.
Edwards was responsible for the signings of Mohamed Salah for a bargain £34m, as well as other smart finds such as Kostas Tsimikas for £11.75m and Andy Robertson for £8m.
According to the Northern Echo, Eddie Howe wants the transfer guru to join him at Newcastle, as he looks to take the Magpies back to the top.
In his first press conference as Newcastle boss, the 43-year-old was asked if Edwards would be joining him.
As quoted by Football Daily, Howe said: “As far as I know, absolutely not. I know nothing about Michael Edwards’ future. He’s someone that I hugely respect in the game and in what he does, and what he’s done for Liverpool.”
A very professional answer from Howe here, in which he keeps his cards close to his chest.
Should Michael Edwards join Eddie Howe?

Yes, yes and yes – the pair could work wonders at St James’ Park.
Liverpool have money, but nowhere near as much as their title rivals Manchester City and Chelsea do.
In that respect, Edwards had to find bargains such as the aforementioned deals for Salah, Tsimikas and Robertson.
So, with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) and their £320bn on Tyneside, who knows what Edwards could achieve.

He clearly has the contacts across Europe to make magic happen, and is a savvy negotiator.
After all, he somehow convinced Howe to sign Jordon Ibe for £15m and Dominic Solanke for £19m, so he must be special!
Keep an eye on this saga, as nobody knows where Edwards is going next.
