Aston Villa signed Tyrone Mings from Bournemouth on a permanent basis this summer.
Eddie Howe has stated that Tyrone Mings has left Bournemouth for Aston Villa ‘with our best wishes’ as he shared that it was ‘a real shame’ injuries held his career back at Dean Court.
In January, a then-struggling Villa loaned centre-back Mings from Bournemouth, with his signing proving to be a game-changer because his performances played a huge part in Dean Smith’s side earning promotion to the Premier League.
It was obvious to one and all that Mings was going to make a permanent switch to Villa Park once they had earned promotion, and that’s exactly what happened earlier this month, with the Midlands outfit paying £20 million for his services [BBC Sport].
Speaking to Sky Sports News (29/07/2019). the Villa supporters will love Howe’s classy comments on Mings as he shared why the time was right for him to leave the club.
“For us, it was a real shame, we love Tyrone, signed him and he got a couple of long-term injuries which set him back,” Howe told Sky Sports News. “The form of Nathan Ake as well played a part in him not appearing as much as he would have wanted to.
“Then he wanted to further his career. He goes with our best wishes. We wish him well and he’s a great player.”
It won’t be long before Mings comes up against his former teammates because Villa’s first home game of the new Premier League season will be against Bournemouth.
There’s no doubt that Mings is a certain starter for Smith, and if Villa are to produce the goods this season then his performances in defence will be crucial.
Last season, Mings brought calmness and leadership skills to Smith’s squad. Added with that, he provided added quality and brought the best out of the players around him.
