Tottenham Hotspur now sit second in the Premier League table after securing another emphatic victory.

In comments reported by the London Evening Standard, Eddie Howe has suggested that Spurs are title contenders in the Premier League without a doubt after Mauricio Pochettino’s side stormed to a 5-0 win on Boxing Day.

Tottenham put their rivals on alert with a stunning 6-2 demolition of Everton at the weekend. But they produced a similarly-impressive performance on Wednesday when Bournemouth came to Wembley.

Christian Eriksen, Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura made the score 3-0 10 minutes before the break, before Harry Kane and Son scored in nine second-half minutes to round off the superb victory.

With Manchester City losing at Leicester, Spurs are now up to second in the table, six points behind league leaders Liverpool. And after the full-time whistle, Howe was emphatic when asked about Tottenham’s title chances.

“Without a doubt,” he said, as reported by the London Evening Standard, when asked whether Spurs were contenders.

“They’ve got the forward players and the creative players that can cause anyone problems,” he went on to add. “They are in great form and are very clinical – we had equally good chances but didn’t take them.”

Liverpool may be seizing the initiative in the title race, but there is still a long way to go. And with the Reds facing Pep Guardiola’s men in their first game of 2019, Spurs have a fantastic opportunity to either close the gap or join Jurgen Klopp’s side in pulling away from the chasing pack.

With 11 goals in their last two league games, Spurs have certainly shown that they have the ability to blow teams away in a manner some previously thought was almost exclusive to Liverpool and Manchester City.
