Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Callum Wilson has been full of praise for Joelinton, labelling him as Newcastle’s Player of the Season.
The £40m man was seen as something of a flop under Steve Bruce, he was a misfiring number nine who, quite simply, couldn’t buy a goal.
However, since the arrival of Eddie Howe, the Brazilian has been transformed into an energetic, battling midfielder and he’s been absolutely incredible in that role.
Wilson has been blown away by the former Hoffenheim man, claiming that he’s been transformed by his change in position.
What’s been said?
Wilson had nothing but good things to say about Joelinton.
“He’s a joke, I swear, at the minute he’s like our Player of the Season, the way Eddie has transformed him, like you say, bringing him into midfield where he’s breaking up the play and smashing people, all jokes aside, he’s been outstanding for the past, I’d say, eight weeks, since he made that midfield transition he’s looked like a totally different player. Yes we paid £40m for a striker, but he was never really a number nine, he played out wide in Germany, and now he’s inside a bit more and he’s unreal, he’s unplayable at the minute to be honest,” Wilson said.

Most improved player in the league
If the Premier League gave out a Most Improved Player award then Joelinton would be an absolute shoo-in.
The striker-turned-midfielder has gone from being arguably the weakest link in the Magpies’ squad to one of their most important players, and it looks as though he could be an absolute star for years to come in that role.
At the age of just 25, Joelinton has so much room to improve and there’s reason to believe that his recent performances are just the beginning.
