Eddie Hall and Tommy Fury’s size difference was impossible to miss when they stood face-to-face for the first time ahead of their June bout.
Hall, who won World’s Strongest Man in 2017, hasn’t fought in a boxing ring since losing to strongman rival Hafthor Bjornsson by decision in 2022. He later made the switch to MMA, where he knocked out fellow strongman Mariusz Pudzianowski last year during a KSW event.
He is set to return for a heavyweight fight against Fury at Misfits Boxing’s opening event of the year, which will take place at the AO Arena in Manchester. And with an expected weight difference of around 140lb between them, it appears this is quickly becoming a grudge match.
Hall and Fury face off for the first time in London ahead of June fight
Even though it’s Eddie Hall who seems to have more of an issue with John Fury than Tommy, the elder Fury stayed away from today’s event. The two exchanged a few words at Glaziers Hall in London, where fans and media had been invited to watch.
Before the meeting, Tommy told Bloody Elbow he expected to weigh in around 210lb. Meanwhile, Hall thinks he might come in at about 330lb. Despite being similar in height, the size difference is obvious – Hall is much heavier built.
Hall called John Fury a ‘p—-’ for missing the press conference. According to reports, John was unwell, and Tommy backed that up by saying his dad wasn’t avoiding anyone and would be ready when fight week rolled around.
Hall used to carry over 440lbs when he was competing as a strongman but has slimmed down quite a bit since then. Unlike Bjornsson, though, Hall hasn’t felt the need to cut down further just for aesthetics.
Their fight is scheduled for six two-minute rounds with both wearing 12oz gloves. It will be classed as an exhibition rather than an official professional bout.
