Marcelo Bielsa has been appointed as the new Leeds United head coach.

Leeds Manager Eddie Gray looks dejected during the FA Barclaycard Premiership match between Arsenal and Leeds United at Highbury on April 16, 2004 in London.

Eddie Gray has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that new Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa’s lack of English is not going to affect the team.

Bielsa has been appointed as the new head coach of Championship outfit Leeds following the departure of Paul Heckingbottom this summer.

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, the Argentine – who has managed Athletic Bilbao and Marseille among other clubs in his career so far – does not speak much English.

Former Leeds winger and manager Gray does not believe that lack of English is going to affect Bielsa at Elland Road.

Gray told The Yorkshire Evening Post: “Football is a universal language. As long as he can get stuff across to the players, it doesn’t make any difference.

“I’m sure that as time goes by he will learn words and what he needs to learn to be able to communicate with people and with the press and the players especially and he will probably have somebody interpret him so he can get his messages across.”

Exciting times at Leeds United

Bielsa is a blockbuster name in the world of football management, and it is quite a coup from Leeds that they could convince him to take the head coach’s role at Elland Road.

Leeds fans must be excited at the prospect of having the Argentine in charge, given his strong reputation and his fascinating style of football.

The Whites have not featured in the Premier League since 2004; perhaps that will change under Bielsa.
