Leeds United are stacked with a number of international players in their squad.

Eddie Gray has hailed the quality of the Leeds United defence and believes the amount of international quality within the backline is unusual for a Championship team.

The Whites are currently top of the league after the opening eight games and are emerging as one of the favourites for promotion back to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side host Birmingham on Saturday at Elland Road and are looking to remain unbeaten in the league.

Leeds legend Gray has highlighted the current defence, who have conceded only five league goals so far.

“I’ve looked at the back four and we’ve got three full internationals in the back four, you’re not used to getting that in the Championship,” Gray told LUTV.

“You throw the goalkeeper in behind them who is an international player now, pretty strong at the back.”

Powerhouse centre-back Pontus Jansson is a regular in the Sweden squad and Leeds’ most experienced when it comes to international football, with 18 appearances at senior level.

Defensive duo Barry Douglas and Gaetano Berardi also have one senior international cap for their respective countries Scotland and Switzerland.

Goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has managed to cement his spot as number one for Leeds and that has led to him earning his first two caps for Northern Ireland.

There is certainly top quality in defence for Leeds, while uncapped duo Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling are also two vital players to Bielsa’s side.

Leeds also have international regulars elsewhere on the pitch in the shape of Ezgjan Alioski (Macedonia), Tyler Roberts (Wales), Mateusz Klich (Poland) and Stuart Dallas (Northern Ireland).
