Eddie Gray has offered his thoughts on Leeds United ahead of their trip to Aston Villa.

Former Leeds player Eddie Gray waves to the fans during The Emirates FA Cup Third Round match between Newport County and Leeds United at Rodney Parade on January 7, 2018 in Newport, Wales.

Eddie Gray has praised the Leeds coaching staff for ‘just brushing off’ the 4-1 defeat to West Brom last month as they prepare for a tough away trip to in-form Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side had suffered a heavy defeat at the Hawthorns at the start of November, but since that drubbing, they have won five games on the bounce.

Their most recent win came at Bolton when the returning Patrick Bamford came off the bench to strike the only goal of the game.

Yorkshire legend Gray praised the reaction of the Leeds players following that defeat at Albion as they hope to continue their winning run at Villa Park this weekend.

“That West Brom defeat, and it was a heavy defeat, could have been deflating,” Gray told LUTV as posted on their official Youtube account. “But it never seemed to bother anybody. The coaches just brushed it off, it’s a one-off, we will not be like that again, we have got lessons to learn and they have learnt their lessons.

“You are going to two tough games, Sheffield United away and Bolton away and you are picking up maximum points. Sometimes the football hasn’t been free-flowing and brilliant, but you always get the impression that someone will do something to change the game.”

Dean Smith’s side are on a roll themselves as they are currently seven games unbeaten and three points outside of the top-six.

Regardless of the result against Villa, Bielsa’s side will still be in the top two come Christmas day because they are six points ahead of third-placed West Brom in the table.

But dropped points over the festive period could see Leeds fall out of the automatic places as they have two home clashes against Blackburn and Hull City before the end of the year.
