Leeds United have enjoyed a productive summer, but club legend Eddie Gray has urged the Whites to strengthen in one more position in particular.

Eddie Gray has suggested to the Yorkshire Evening Post that he wants to see Leeds strengthen their options at left-back this summer.

The Whites have enjoyed an extremely productive summer, making a number of signings ahead of Thomas Christiansen’s first season in charge.

But with the new campaign just days away, there are still some areas of the squad that some of the fans would be forgiven for thinking need further additions. And while Gray praised Gaetano Berardi, he suggested that adding to their options on the left-hand side of defence should be a priority following Charlie Taylor’s departure.

“(Gaetano) Berardi’s a good player, a good defender who can get forward, but ideally you’d want a left-footed player at left-back,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“Charlie Taylor was the best crosser of the ball last season and being left-footed gives the team more width on that side.

“For me, there are still a couple of positions which need looking at but you can’t deny that the owner’s put money into the team.”

There is no question that a large number of the supporters would be content if Berardi began the season as Christiansen’s first-choice left-back given his popularity and the fact that fans can rely on him to give everything every time he is on the pitch.

However, Tyler Denton is yet to really prove that he is ready to be Berardi’s understudy, and so, not strengthening in that area of the pitch would be a risk as the Swiss – as Gray suggests – is naturally right-footed, and has been guilty of being dragged in from time to time when deployed on the left.

But with the window’s deadline in the not too distant future, Leeds’ task – if they are interested in signing another left-back – may perhaps become harder as clubs are often able to bump prices up as the days tick down in the hope that desperation tempts the interested side into paying big money.
