Leeds United legend Eddie Gray is confident Marcelo Bielsa will be able to attract some exciting signings to Elland Road.

Eddie Gray has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he expects Leeds to pull off some high profile signings during the summer transfer window due to the pulling power that Marcelo Bielsa possesses.

The Whites have certainly captured the imagination with their appointment of the Argentinian, and the Elland Road faithful will be hoping that his arrival will lead to the club putting themselves back in the promotion mix in the Championship having flirted with the top six under Thomas Christiansen.

The Yorkshire Evening Post suggests that Leeds have their eye on a number of promising targets, including Kyle Bartley, Angus Gunn, Abel Hernandez, Matej Vydra and Harry Wilson. And Gray suggested that Bielsa’s arrival should set up an exciting summer for the club.

“You don’t bring a manager of that profile in without giving him the necessary funds he needs. I think he will tell the club what he thinks he needs and I think the club will back him,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“There will be a lot of players who will know his reputation and a lot of people will probably want to play for him. The signings will be high profile I think,” he added.

It would certainly not be a surprise if Bielsa’s presence at the club helped Leeds in the market. The appointment is a statement from the owners that the Whites are setting their sights on ending their top flight exile as quickly as possible.

But not only does Bielsa’s arrival highlight a desire to get back to the highest level, but players will wish to play under the 62-year-old given the aura and stature he possesses. The Championship has seen a handful of seriously exciting managerial appointments in recent years – Rafa Benitez’s decision to stay at Newcastle and Wolves landing Nuno Espirito Santo are arguably the most noteworthy – and Bielsa’s move to Leeds is undoubtedly up there.

Andrea Radrizzani will now be hoping that Bielsa can follow in Benitez’s and Nuno’s footsteps and secure promotion at the first attempt.
