Leeds manager Eddie Gray (C) shouts instructions during the FA Barclaycard Premiership match between Fulham and Leeds United at Loftus Road on March 13, 2004 in London.

Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has told LUTV that goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald deserves praise after keeping another clean sheet against Norwich City last time out.

The Whites face Hull City on Saturday afternoon at Elland Road and German stopper Wiedwald is expected to remain between the sticks after keeping his eighth clean sheet in 15 outings for the Yorkshire giants.

Wiedwald, 27, has come in for criticism throughout the 2017-18 campaign since his summer move from Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen, which saw him dropped and replaced by Andy Lonergan for seven league games in October and November.

However, Wiedwald has returned to the side, and has conceded just two goals in four games and making a number of “vital saves” during the 1-0 win over Norwich. Gray lauded the summer signing, stating he deserves the plaudits.

“What I would like to say, is the goalkeeper deserves a bit of credit,” Gray said. “He doesn’t get much credit, but he made a couple of vital saves at vital times in the game that won the three points.

“I was pleased for him, because it’s not been the easiest of times for the goalkeeper. He’s had a lot of clean sheets, you look at some of the goals he’s conceded, including QPR, where we’re hanging on until the last minute, but he made a good save there too.

“I was pleased for the goalkeeper. Defensively, we’re looking stronger.”

Seventh-placed Leeds can go sixth if they earn three points against a struggling Hull City side on home turf this weekend, with fifth playing against sixth on Saturday evening in Sheffield United and Aston Villa.

Leeds will be buoyant going into the game having won three of their last four matches against Barnsley, QPR and Norwich, while Hull have won only once in their last nine outings.
