Eddie Gray has told TalkSPORT (Monday, 11:25AM) that he hopes Premier League survival will convince Raphinha to stay at Leeds this summer. The Brazilian is being linked with the likes of Barcelona and Newcastle.
The 25-year-old superstar scored in his side’s 2-1 win over Brentford – winning a penalty and then getting up, off the turf, to curl a penalty in to the top corner. It was crucial to the Leeds win, which kept them up.
While Sergi Canos scored an equaliser, Jack Harrison then crashed home the winner in injury time after a Raphinha corner had been partially cleared. It might be Raphinha’s last-ever outing for the Yorkshire side.
But Leeds legend Gray appeared on TalkSPORT on Monday and he had a message for Raphinha. Gray hopes the Leeds star stays at Elland Road after helping the club survive in the Premier League, but knows there are suitors.
“He plays the game like a typical Brazilian, loves the game. He always puts a shift in. Raphinha will be well-sought after by other clubs in the league, but hopefully staying in the PL will convince him to stay,” Gray said.
Gray hopes Raphinha stays at Leeds: Could Whites tempt him?
While the survival celebrations will make Raphinha love the club even more, the Brazilian is driven. He is ambitious and he will do what is best for his career. A move to Barcelona seems like the next step.
It would not be the end of the world for his career if he stays at Leeds, and continues to show the world what he is capable of. With the World Cup at the end of 2022, he would also be playing every single minute for Leeds.
At Barcelona, would he? To summarise – a move to Barcelona is the next logical step for the Brazil international. But staying at Leeds, with survival in the bag, is hardly the end of the world.
