The 25-year-old joined Leeds United in the summer.

Eddie Gray has told LUTV that right-back Luke Ayling has done “extremely well” since joining Leeds United in the summer.

The 25-year-old has been ever present for Leeds this season after joining the Elland Road club from Bristol City in July, signing a three-year contract.

The former Robin has started 15 of United’s 16 Championship games, and has managed to keep Gaetano Berardi out of the side after he returned from injury last month.

Leeds boss Garry Monk brought in some 12 players during the summer transfer window, and the likes of Pontus Jansson, Kyle Bartley and Pablo Hernandez – who all joined on loan – are perhaps considered three of the most effective so far.

But Gray has singled out Ayling for a bit of rare praise, noting the defender’s athleticism as one of his key attributes.

“Ayling, one of his great attributes is that he is athletic; he can go up and down the pitch,” he told LUTV.

“He gets forward, he gets in support of [Hadi] Sacko, he defends well, he harries people, he tries not to allow people to turn and I think he makes the best of the ability he has got.

“I think he has done well extremely well since he has come into the side.”

Ayling has certainly done his bit as Leeds sit sixth in the Championship table, but a big test of their promotion credentials comes on Saturday as Monk and co host top-of-the-table Newcastle – who have won their last seven league games – at Elland Road.
