The Whites legend believes this summer has changed everything at Elland Road.

Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has told LUTV that Pontus Jansson is exactly what the team and supporters needed because he gets the crowd going.

Jansson has become a huge favourite at Elland Road since his summer arrival on a season-long loan from Torino because of his passionate nature on and off the field.

The Swedish international has made 14 appearances in all competitions so far for the Whites and has brought a leadership to the backline that had been sorely missing.

He is surely one of the first names on the teamsheet every week for Monk, and has quickly become one of the key men for his side.

Gray believes that Jansson is more than just a superb defender at Championship level; the former Whites hero says the centre-back has a unique ability to get the crowd behind the team. Gray told LUTV: “He is a character in the game and a character at Leeds United.

“It’s great for the football club because you need people like that to get the crowd going. Playing at Elland Road some games might be tight and you might need something to spark the team.

“It does not take much actually to get the crowd going.”

Jansson has certainly changed things in West Yorkshire. With him at the heart of their defence, Monk’s side have risen to fourth in the Championship with Saturday’s excellent 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

Leeds will have the option to sign Jansson permanently once he reaches 20 appearances, and it is difficult to imagine them not gladly paying the reported £3.5 million fee.
