Leeds earned a narrow 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday.

Former Leeds player Eddie Gray waves to the fans during The Emirates FA Cup Third Round match between Newport County and Leeds United at Rodney Parade on January 7, 2018 in Newport, Wales.

Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has told the club’s official website that he was disappointed with Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s finishing against Brentford on Saturday afternoon at Elland Road.

The Whites earned a narrow 1-0 win over Dean Smith’s men to finally record their first win under the guidance of new manager Paul Heckingbottom since he replaced Thomas Christiansen earlier this month.

Captain Liam Cooper rose highest to head home an Ezgjan Alioski free-kick in the 31st minute, before combining well with Pontus Jansson at centre-back to keep out the Bees’ attack as the Londoners pushed for an equaliser.

Gray, who played and managed Leeds during his career, believes his old side should have scored more and criticised on-loan striker Lasogga for his finishing with the German missing a decent chance in the second half.

“The big centre-forward when he was on, Lasogga, he was occupying their central defenders,” Gray said.

“Bit unlucky second half he never scored when he ran through and took maybe a little bit too long to get his shot away. But in general, Paul will be delighted with the performance.”

After a strong start to his season-long loan at Elland Road, Hamburg striker Lasogga faltered during the middle of the season with injuries hampering his progress. But he has returned to show just what he is capable in the last seven games.

A brace against Millwall, before three goals in three games prior to the win over Brentford has taken his tally to 10 in 22 games for the season. It remains to be seen if a permanent deal is on the cards for 26-year-old Lasogga.

Leeds will be hoping to build on Heckingbottom’s first win in charge as they travel to Teesside to face Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough at the Riverside on Friday night in front of the television cameras.
