Leeds United lost in the Championship at the weekend, going down 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday away from home at the Hillsborough Stadium.

The Whites were always going to find it hard to pick up all three points on Sunday afternoon, but not many would have expected them to be completely outplayed by the Owls.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side were the better team from start to finish and deservedly bagged all three points from the encounter at the Hillsborough Stadium.

Leeds Manager Eddie Gray looks dejected during the FA Barclaycard Premiership match between Arsenal and Leeds United at Highbury on April 16, 2004 in London.

Following the defeat, Felix Wiedwald’s performance between the sticks has once again come under scrutiny.

Although the goalkeeper started the season well, the 27-year-old German has made mistakes in recent games.

The former Germany Under-20 international could have done better for the opening goal that Wednesday scored against Leeds on Sunday afternoon.

Thomas Christiansen manager of Leeds United looks on before the Carabao Cup Third Round match between Burnley and Leeds United at Turf Moor on September 19, 2017 in Burnley, England.

Leeds legend Eddie Gray believes that Wiedwald could have done better for the first goal and told LUTV: “I think it has to go down as a goalkeeping error.

“Players make mistakes in games, outfield players make mistakes, but when goalkeepers make an error, nine times out of 10 the ball ends up in the back of the net. I just thought he should have come for the ball.”

Wiedwald joined Thomas Christiansen’s Leeds from Werder Bremen in the summer transfer window and is the first-choice goalkeeper for the Whites at the moment.

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, the Championship club had to pay the German outfit a transfer fee of £500,000 in order to secure the services of the 27-year-old.
