Leeds United will face Derby County at Elland Road in the Championship on Friday evening.

Former Leeds player Eddie Gray waves to the fans during The Emirates FA Cup Third Round match between Newport County and Leeds United at Rodney Parade on January 7, 2018 in Newport, Wales.

Eddie Gray has suggested on LUTV that Jack Clarke could replace Leeds United teammate Pablo Hernandez in the team against Derby County.

According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, attacking midfielder Hernandez is doubtful for the Championship match against Derby at Elland Road on Friday evening.

Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa has suggested, as quoted in The Yorkshire Evening Post, that Tyler Roberts could replace the Spaniard as the creator-in-chief against the Rams.

Former Leeds winger and manager Gray believes that Clarke could play in the role behind the striker and create chances.

Gray told LUTV about Clarke replacing Hernandez: “I think he can do it. I know he did it as a young player. He can play in that hole.”

Surprise option?

Clarke is only 18 years of age and can operate as a forward or as a winger, and the performances of the teenager so far this season have been very encouraging.

The teenager has made 11 substitute appearances in the Championship for the Whites so far this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.

The youngster could start against Derby, and although he is likely to be deployed on the wing, perhaps as the game progresses, the 18-year-old could play more centrally behind Kemar Roofe.
