Eddie Gray has suggested on LUTV that Leeds United will not miss Liam Cooper if he does not play against Wigan Athletic today.

Leeds will take on Wigan at Elland Road in the Championship in a few hours’ time.

Cooper could miss the match, as the 27-year-old central defender has a muscle problem, as reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post.

Former Leeds winger and manager Gray does not believe that Cooper will be a big miss due to the options that the West Yorkshire outfit have.

Full-back Gaetano Berardi filled for Cooper against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend, while midfielder Kalvin Phillips has also been deployed as a central defender by head coach Marcelo Bielsa this season.

Gray said on LUTV about the possibility of Cooper missing today’s match: “Funny enough, no disrespect to anybody, but we have got players who can fill in that role. He (Kalvin Phillips) can do it as well.

“If he steps in there and Berardi wasn’t available, Forshaw comes into the middle of the park, we are not losing anything. We are not losing much at all.”

Stats

Cooper has made 33 appearances in the Championship for Leeds so far this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.

The Whites are second in the Championship table at the moment with 82 points from 42 matches, four points behind leaders Norwich City and three points clear of third-placed Sheffield United.
