Speaking to LUTV, Eddie Gray has acknowledged that Leeds United fans deserve to vent their frustrations at Elland Road, but believes that this has an adverse effect on the players from time to time.

Leeds, and in particular manager Garry Monk, alleviated some pressure by beating bottom-of-the-table Blackburn Rovers 2-1 on Tuesday night – their first home win of the new Championship season.

It had seemed like a case of same old story for the Whites, but Kyle Bartley grabbed an 86th-minute winner as United sealed their second league victory of the season.

For whatever reason, Leeds’ home record has not been hugely impressive for a while, and the Yorkshire club managed only seven wins at Elland Road last term.

But although Gray feels that fans are justified in voicing their opinion, the Leeds legend claims that vocal discontent makes it difficult for the team sometimes.

“The crowd get frustrated, they vent their frustration – quite rightly so because they think they should be playing in the Premier League,” he told LUTV.

“And that’s how it is at this football club. It makes it difficult for players at times.

“You heard the crowd at the end, it was like we were top of the league, and we beat Blackburn, who are bottom of the league.”

Leeds, who sit 18th in the Championship after winning twice from seven outings, visit Cardiff City on Saturday.
