Eberechi Eze has raved about former Liverpool player Ovie Ejaria in The Times.

The Crystal Palace attacking midfielder has said that Ejaria is a maverick and has outlined his attributes.

The 23-year-old midfielder left Arsenal for Liverpool in 2014 and then progressed through the system at the Merseyside club.

The youngster made two appearances in the Premier League for the Reds and had loan spells at Sunderland, Rangers and Reading before joining the Royals on a permanent contract in the summer of 2020 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £3 million.

Eze told The Times about Ejaria: “You can see the cage in him. He won’t be afraid to try something or worried about what anyone thinks. That’s what I think cage football brings out of loads of players.”

Did Liverpool make a mistake?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp worked with Ejaria, and one suspects that the German must have given the go-ahead for the club to sell him last summer.

It was always going to be hard for the 23-year-old to establish himself in the Liverpool first team given the quality of players at the club.

Ejaria needed to play regularly at this stage of his career, and he is doing that at Reading at the moment.

According to WhoScored, the 23-year-old has scored two goals and provided five assists in 24 Championship games for the Royals so far this season.

Reading are in the Championship playoffs at the moment, and perhaps next season the youngster will play in the Premier League with the Royals.
