Louis Moult scored for fun at Motherwell and looks to have piqued the interest of both Rangers and Derby County as a result.

As it stands, Rangers are badly lacking in two key areas; funds and reliable goalscorers. Therefore, surely they cannot afford to turn down the prospect of signing Motherwell’s 18-goal talisman Louis Moult this summer.
Especially with the Scottish Sun claiming they are demanding just £500,000, plus the out-of-favour Michael O’Halloran, for the fourth highest goalscorer in the Scottish top flight in 2016/17.
When you consider that Rangers’ top scorer, 37-year-old Kenny Miller, was the only player in Pedro Caixinha’s squad to hit double figures last season, it’s fairly clear where the Ibrox giants need to improve.
However, they will not be short of competition. The Scottish Sun adds that Derby County are also keen. And while The Rams may not be short of funds, they have one of the biggest budgets in the Championship, they too are in need of reliable net-botherers this summer.
After all, no side in the top half managed to score fewer than Derby last season.

The question, however, is whether Moult is capable of scoring the goals required to cut the gap on the top six. The former Stoke City youngster may have hit an impressive 30 goals in 69 games north of the border but success in Scotland does not always translate over to the English game, as Kris Boyd, Stevie May and Greg Stewart will testify.
Furthermore, with Chris Martin, one of the Championship’s most feared hitmen, returning to Pride Park after an ill-thought loan at Fulham, Darren Bent signing a new contract and Matej Vydra and David Nugent likely to be more settled in their second season, the answer to Derby’s goalscoring problems may be already under their nose.
Chris Martin top scored for Derby for three seasons in succession
However, with Motherwell unlikely to demand a huge fee for Moult this summer, he may be a risk worth taking.
