Rangers midfielder Sean Goss disappointed in the Old Firm derby but he should retain his place.

Sean Goss has exceeded expectations at Rangers so far but he disappointed in the Old Firm clash at Ibrox on Sunday.

Goss was substituted off after 76 minutes of Rangers’ 3-2 defeat after a lacklustre display, the worst of his spell since he signed for Rangers.

There is big competition for the central midfield spots, and with Graham Dorrans returning from injury, Goss’ place is under threat when they take on Kilmarnock this weekend.

Goss has given his manager the perfect excuse to change it up and leave him out, but this is a test of Murty’s man management.

Dropping Goss could affect his confidence, especially as Rangers do not have a game after this for another fortnight.

Putting him straight back in the team lets him quickly shake the Celtic game off and get his own disappointment out of his system.

The loan spell at Rangers is about learning for Goss and he must hope he gets the opportunity to learn from his own shortcomings.

Rangers are more concerned about winning matches, and this upcoming game is a pivotal one, but Rangers should consider that the benefit of backing Goss could outweigh the drawbacks of leaving him to stew on the Old Firm game as his last taste of action for weeks to come.
