Championship giants Leeds United have some decisions to make this summer

It has been another season of instability at Leeds United. And after their campaign crumbled, expect changes this summer with director of football Victor Orta set to delve into his extensive contact book again.

But who has just two months remaining to show that they should remain at Elland Road next season?

Felix Wiedwald

German goalkeeper Wiedwald only arrived from Werder Bremen for £500,000 last summer but the fact the previously seldom seen Bailey Peacock-Farrell is currently Leeds’ number one speaks volumes about his displays between the sticks.

Wiedwald has been an unmitigated disaster at times, failing to command his area and conceding the softest of goals on a regular basis. The term ‘shot-stooper’ appears to have been taken as optional.

And reports in The Sun that Leeds will make a new glovesman a priority this summer should raise fears about his future.

Matthew Pennington

The Yorkshire Evening Post claimed in December that Leeds were keen to make Matthew Pennington’s loan move from Everton permanent this summer.

But the 23-year-old centre-back continues to divide opinion among the Elland Road fanbase. He has featured semi regularly since Paul Heckingbottom took charge in February, starting five Championship games, but the standard of his performance remains somewhat erratic.

Leeds still have time to change their minds.

Marcus Antonsson

All players are handed a clean slate when a new manager arrives, as the old saying goes. And the same should apply for Antonsson despite the fact he is missing the first few months of Heckingbottom’s tenure due to being out on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

The Swedish striker, who barely featured for Leeds since his £2m move from Kalmar in 2016, has impressed at times in League One. But, crucially, he hasn’t scored since Heckingbottom took over at Elland Road and is actually without a goal since November.

If Antonsson wants to show that he can solve Leeds’ goalscoring problems, he’ll need to start finding the net in the division below.
