With Liverpool having a genuine chance of finishing in the top four and securing a return to Champions League football for the first time since the 2014/15 season, it’s been a pretty exciting season for Reds fans.

Manager Jurgen Klopp keep stamping his influence onto the side, and with each passing transfer window, the club seems to get stronger – with this season proving that. There have been some fantastic wins for Klopp’s side, but there have been some rather shocking defeats as well. Here’s Liverpool’s highest and lowest point of the season so far.

Highest point – Liverpool 1-0 Manchester City

Much is made of Liverpool’s defence and how allegedly weak it is, and while there have been several instances where that claim has been proved correct, this was an occasion which proved they can defend. Facing a team who have won two Premier League titles in the last five years and are now managed by one of the best managers of all time, supposedly, in Pep Guardiola, the fact Liverpool managed to not only keep a clean sheet, but also claim victory, is admirable. One strike from Georginio Wijnaldum was enough to secure the points, and Liverpool’s defence held firm against the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and of course, ex Liverpool man Raheem Sterling.

Lowest point – Hull City 2-0 Liverpool

If Liverpool fail to finish in the top four, it will be because of results like this. While there is no doubting that Marco Silva has done a tremendous job at Hull, a draw would have been a bad result for the Reds, let alone a defeat. However, that’s exactly what happened, and goals from Alfred N’Diaye and Oumar Niasse – the latter of the which is on loan from Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton – condemned Klopp’s side to a bad defeat. In some ways this result acted as a springboard, with Liverpool defeating Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Burnley and Everton in four of their six fixtures after this match, but this trip to Hull won’t be remembered fondly by the Anfield faithful.
