Gordon Dalziel is ‘surprised’ no Premier League side is fighting Nottingham Forest and West Brom for the transfer of Rangers defender Connor Goldson, he told The Scottish Sun.
The former Ibrox forward is firm in his belief that Goldson has proven in the Premiership he is good enough to play in the English top-flight. The 29-year-old moved to Glasgow for £3m in 2018 after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion as Steven Gerrard’s sixth signing.
Goldson has since amassed 195 appearances for the Gers across all competitions, with 33 outings so far this season. He also helped Rangers clinch their first Premiership title since 2011 last term as part of the division’s best backline.

Rangers are now at risk of losing Goldson in a free transfer, however, as the centre-half is out of contract. The four-year deal agreed in 2018 expires this May, opening a door for the Wolverhampton-born enforcer to return to England.
Nottingham Forest and West Brom are on high alert for a transfer of Rangers ace Goldson, The Scottish Sun report. It is highly unlikely that he agrees new terms with the Gers, while Forest and the Baggies emerge as favourites.
A third unnamed club is also battling for his services, but Rangers are not preparing to cash in during January. Ibrox chiefs are relaxed about his situation and are not anxious about the prospect of him leaving for free.
Nottingham Forest and West Brom interest in Rangers star Goldson no surprise
Instead, Rangers intend to retain Nottingham Forest and West Brom target Goldson in the January transfer window. The Gers believe his importance to Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the prospect of Champions League qualification outweighs the fees available this month.

Nottingham Forest and West Brom do not surprise former Rangers striker Dalziel with their transfer interest in Goldson. But no Premier League sides being in the race shocks him.
Dalziel said: “Goldson is a top-class player. He’s a good defender and has a really good range of passing. It doesn’t surprise me that Forest and West Brom want him.
“But I am surprised clubs in the Premier League haven’t made a move, because he could easily go to that level. Goldson has come up to Scotland from Brighton and got better with each season. He could definitely cut it in the top-flight down south.”
