Charles Watts says Kai Havertz’s transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal could be announced by ‘early next week’.
The Football London journalist added that Kai Havertz is expected to have his medical ‘this weekend’ as he closes in on a ‘£65 million’ transfer from Chelsea, as he told Arsenal Insider.
If that deal is announced by next week, then he will be Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s first signing of the summer, unless somebody else, such as Jurrien Timber or Declan Rice sneak through, which doesn’t seem likely.
When the 2022/23 Premier League season came to a close and Arsenal had shot themselves in the foot, not many expected a player like Havertz to be linked with the club, never mind be close to signing for them.
Fans knew that the squad would be bulked up, and perhaps players would be moved on, there is strong talk of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka possibly leaving.
But this one has surprised many, but this is where Arteta has to be trusted, with Watts explaining why, if Havertz isn’t announced by next week, it could be delayed.

“Kai Havertz, this one is certainly very close to now being over the line,” said Watts. “In fact, I am expecting it to be done pretty, pretty swiftly after the clubs agreed a deal.
“Havertz’s medical is, I believe, to be taking place this weekend. It wouldn’t surprise me if this one is announced or confirmed early next week. I hate to put a time frame on it.
“Havertz is away, at the moment, so it depends if he can get over to London Colney and deal with all the media stuff Arsenal want to do. Arsenal like to have all of that in place, before they confirm a transfer. They don’t really like doing it whilst a player is away, then waiting a couple of weeks before they can do all the in-house media.
“I fully expect Havertz to be Arsenal’s first signing of the summer transfer window. All in, it’s around the £65 million mark.”

Havertz is a player who ‘isn’t afraid’
It could be argued that amid everything that has been said about Havertz, most feel that Arsenal don’t need the German international and they are questioning it.
But one man that has backed Arsenal and Arteta is former Liverpool player, Luis Garcia.
He described Havertz as a player who ‘isn’t afriad’ to get on the ball in difficult moments and he thinks the north London club need that as they push for the Premier League title again next season.
