Tim Sherwood was critical of Hugo Lloris on Premier League Productions for wasting time during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw at Everton on Friday night.
The former midfielder claimed that Tottenham’s goalkeeper, with five minutes left on the clock, was ‘taking a minute’ to take goal kicks and free kicks.
With Tottenham on the back foot, in terms of wanting to finish in the Champions League places, this was a huge encounter to surge forward towards those top-four places.
But both Sherwood and Joleon Lescott suggested that, judging by the way Tottenham played, they were happy with the point against their European-chasing rivals.
“For me, Tottenham showed no intensity to try and win this game,” said Sherwood. “We all know, that’s a must-win tonight. You have to win that football match.
“Now, we are into five minutes to go into the game and Hugo Lloris is getting goal kicks, getting free kicks and they are taking a minute each time!
“Get the ball onto the pitch and try to win the football match! A draw is no good. It’s better for Everton, with a game in hand than it was for Tottenham. That’s a poor result.”
Lescott added: “They didn’t look like any stage that they wanted to win it. They weren’t trying to create chances. There wasn’t sustained pressure. There wasn’t a high intensity to any aspect of their game.
“It was like they were happy to take a draw and, in a must-win game, I just find that strange to see and analyse.”
As per, it was Harry Kane who came to Tottenham’s rescue on Friday night and he did in style.
A lot is said about how there is a small margin for error when competing against the best and Kane proved that at Goodison Park.
